Emmanuel - December 2020 Bulletin

The name Emmanuel occurs three times in Scripture, Isaiah 7:14; 8:8; Mathew 1:23. This is the name of the promised child of the virgin, whose miraculous conception by God was to be a sign to the world. This is the name of the one who would bring the promise of salvation to the world. This name means “God with us.”

God: Refers to His person. The Creator, Second Person of the Trinity, the Son of God Omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, eternal, immutable
absolutely holy, just, righteous.

With: Implies His gracious work. He came to be with man, to take upon Himself flesh, and become a Man. He dwelt among us, ministered among us, suffered and died among us. Being one of us in the flesh, yet without sin, He was able to become our offering for sin, our great high priest, and mediator between God and man.

Us: Refers to sinful man. Dead in trespasses and sins, children of disobedience, children of wrath, followers of Satan, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and the mind, Ephesians 2:1-3.

Jesus never came as “God against us,” or “God opposed to us,” “but God with us.”

In Christ,
Pastor Sam Joukhadar

“Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.”

2 Corinthians 9:15
